Change Never Seemed So Similar

Below is an editorial that I recently had published in the local newspaper.

Republicrat

The internet has made access to information incredibly easy. For example, according to the US Census Bureau approximately 2,900,000 individuals work for the Federal government, another 4,300,000 work for State governments and yet another 12,000,000 work for Local governments. All total approximately 20,200,000 individuals work for government in some form.

Here is another example of information readily available on the internet. In an 1824 letter Thomas Jefferson wrote, “I think, myself, that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious.”

Parasites! Pretty strong language, we never hear such words from modern politicians. Could it be that the dominate philosophy of both major parties assigns government as the answer to all problems? Please don’t tell me that the Republican party is different from the Democrat party on this issue, the history of government growth does not show such a difference.

I find it difficult to go to the polls, it only serves to legitimize this unproductive, dare we say, “parasitic” philosophy. With no alternatives but the two major parties the process of casting a ballot is futile. Any politician who comes close to espousing Jefferson’s sentiments is marginalized. Regardless of what any candidate promises, reform and REAL CHANGE will never visit this country under the two party regime we presently have. What shall we do?
