This book addresses the often overlooked or ignored cultural and political context of the New Testament era in setting up a framework for appropriately understanding the key Bible texts pertaining to the state and public policy. Useful tools from basic economics are also used. The four Christian views of public policy are laid out and one of them, the “liberty of conscience” view, is fleshed out in some detail. Key issues are addressed such as torture, capital punishment, slavery (ancient and modern), revolution, resistance (rebellion), public finance, state lotteries, flags in sanctuaries, immigration, juries, voting, Christian civic duty, the Second Amendment, self-defense, and much more.
