Ep 93: The Female Disciples in the Gospels with Holly Carey
In this episode I talk to Holly Carey, professor and chair of the Biblical Studies department at Point University in Georgia, about her brand-new book Women Who Do: Female Disciples in the Gospels, published by Eerdmans in October 2023. We discuss the role that women play as disciples in the four gospels and the book of Acts, as well as the experience of women in Antiquity and the ways in which interpretation of the Gospels can and should shape how we read other New Testament texts about women in the church. Dr. Carey explains how often overlooked texts can radically reshape the way that women are presented in the Bible and how these insights have major implications for the practice of the modern church. This is an excellent conversation that you will not want to miss!
