40 Reasons to Ban Guns

By

imageIn my honest opinion, Christians are not forbidden by Christ to practice basic self-defense. There are times, of course, when suffering through persecution (even unto death) will happen, but if somebody breaks into your house I think you have the obligation to protect your family. And by protect your family, I mean own some firearms and know how to use them.

The following is a pretty funny rendition of the reasons given why we shouldn’t have guns. You know which reason I really despise? I’ll tell you in a minute, you should read the reasons first. Also, pay attention because there is a quiz at the end.

40 Reasons to Ban Guns

  1. Banning guns works, which is why New York, DC, Detroit & Chicago cops need guns.
  2. Washington DC’s low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to strict gun control, and Indianapolis’s high murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control.
  3. Statistics showing high murder rates justify gun control but statistics showing increasing murder rates after gun control are “just statistics.”
  4. The Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban, both of which went into effect in 1994 are responsible for the decrease in violent crime rates, which have been declining since 1991.
  5. We must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time and anyone who would own a gun out of fear of such a lunatic is paranoid.
  6. The more helpless you are the safer you are from criminals.
  7. An intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or oven spray, but if shot with a .357 Magnum will get angry and kill you.
  8. A woman raped and strangled is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet.
  9. When confronted by violent criminals, you should “put up no defense – give them what they want, or run” (Handgun Control Inc. Chairman Pete Shields, Guns Don’t Die – People Do, 1981, p. 125).
  10. The New England Journal of Medicine is filled with expert advice about guns; just like Guns & Ammo has some excellent treatises on heart surgery.
  11. One should consult an automotive engineer for safer seat belts, a civil engineer for a better bridge, a surgeon for internal medicine, a computer programmer for hard drive problems, and Sarah Brady for firearms expertise.
  12. The 2nd Amendment, ratified in 1787, refers to the National Guard, which was created 130 years later, in 1917.
  13. The National Guard, federally funded, with bases on federal land, using federally-owned weapons, vehicles, buildings and uniforms, punishing trespassers under federal law, is a “state” militia.
  14. These phrases: “right of the people peaceably to assemble,” “right of the people to be secure in their homes,” “enumerations herein of certain rights shall not be construed to disparage others retained by the people,” and “The powers not delegated herein are reserved to the states respectively, and to the people” all refer to individuals, but “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” refers to the state.
  15. “The Constitution is strong and will never change.” But we should ban and seize all guns thereby violating the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendments to that Constitution.
  16. Rifles and handguns aren’t necessary to national defense! Of course, the army has hundreds of thousands of them.
  17. Private citizens shouldn’t have handguns, because they aren’t “military weapons”, but private citizens shouldn’t have “assault rifles”, because they are military weapons.
  18. In spite of waiting periods, background checks, fingerprinting, government forms, etc., guns today are too readily available, which is responsible for recent school shootings. In the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s,anyone could buy guns at hardware stores, army surplus stores, gas stations, variety stores, Sears mail order, no waiting, no background check, no fingerprints, no government forms and there were no school shootings.
  19. The NRA’s attempt to run a “don’t touch” campaign about kids handling guns is propaganda, but the anti-gun lobby’s attempt to run a “don’t touch” campaign is responsible social activity.
  20. Guns are so complex that special training is necessary to use them properly, and so simple to use that they make murder easy.
  21. A handgun, with up to 4 controls, is far too complex for the typical adult to learn to use, as opposed to an automobile that only has 20.
  22. Women are just as intelligent and capable as men but a woman with a gun is “an accident waiting to happen” and gun makers’ advertisements aimed at women are “preying on their fears.”
  23. Ordinary people in the presence of guns turn into slaughtering butchers but revert to normal when the weapon is removed.
  24. Guns cause violence, which is why there are so many mass killings at gun shows.
  25. A majority of the population supports gun control, just like a majority of the population supported owning slaves.
  26. Any self-loading small arm can legitimately be considered to be a “weapon of mass destruction” or an “assault weapon.”
  27. Most people can’t be trusted, so we should have laws against guns, which most people will abide by because they can be trusted.
  28. The right of Internet pornographers to exist cannot be questioned because it is constitutionally protected by the Bill of Rights, but the use of handguns for self defense is not really protected by the Bill of Rights.
  29. founders2ndamendmentFree speech entitles one to own newspapers, transmitters, computers, and typewriters, but self- defense only justifies bare hands.
  30. The ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of the Constitution, and the NRA is bad, because it defends other parts of the Constitution.
  31. Charlton Heston, a movie actor as president of the NRA was a cheap lunatic who should be ignored, but Michael Douglas, a movie actor as a representative of Handgun Control, Inc. is an ambassador for peace who is entitled to an audience at the UN arms control summit.
  32. Police operate with backup within groups, which is why they need larger capacity pistol magazines than do “civilians” who must face criminals alone and therefore need less ammunition.
  33. We should ban “Saturday Night Specials” and other inexpensive guns because it’s not fair that poor people have access to guns too.
  34. Police officers have some special Jedi-like mastery over handguns that private citizens can never hope to obtain.
  35. Private citizens don’t need a gun for self-protection because the police are there to protect them even though the Supreme Court says the police are not responsible for their protection.
  36. Citizens don’t need to carry a gun for personal protection but police chiefs, who are desk-bound administrators who work in a building filled with cops, need a gun.
  37. “Assault weapons” have no purpose other than to kill large numbers of people. The police need assault weapons. You do not.
  38. When Microsoft pressures its distributors to give Microsoft preferential promotion, that’s bad; but when the Federal government pressures cities to buy guns only from Smith & Wesson, that’s good.
  39. Trigger locks do not interfere with the ability to use a gun for defensive purposes, which is why you see police officers with one on their duty weapon.
  40. Handgun Control, Inc., says they want to “keep guns out of the wrong hands.” Guess what? You have the wrong hands.

Okay, you know which one of these I really find repulsive? #33, the banning of cheaper guns. This infuriates me. The government already has set up the system in such a way that poor people have a much harder time protecting themselves. And considering that their neighborhoods can frequently be worse than the middle-class, who have the money to own firearms and purchase their multi-hundred dollar concealed carry permit, I find this situation untenable.

But moreover, purchase a firearm for yourself. Become familiar with it. Train with it. It’s less complicated than operating a car, so familiarity will quell any fear you have. You never know when you’ll need to use it.

So here is your quiz question: Which of the 40 reasons do you despise the most, and why? Comment below!

I don’t know anyone who can dodge a bullet like Neo from the Matrix. This means that your next best option is to get <a href=”http://www.affordablelifeinsurance.com

. Life insurance can’t stop bullets, but it can look after your loved one’s financially after you’re gone.

+1 troll. I love it when you guys come in with mere assertions, backed up by
    nothing. Go team?

hey, I came here by accident, but if you want a debate… Religion has been with us thousands of years. All those years never did anything for the human being. NEVER. With all the power and money that they had and still have. They killed a lot of innocent people in the name of religion. Religion creates division in the world. Promotes hate, delusion, and stupidity. Religious people loves to judge others. they think they know what is right and what is wrong. How do you know that? which religion is the correct one? if I decide to join christianity which one is the right one to go to heaven? I mean theres like a million of denomination inside christianity alone. Why dont you realize that the bible is a fairytale book and religion was invented to control ignorant masses. Its the same as scientology, but older. Anyway with all the power and money all those thousands of years, never ever did something to help this world. On the contrary religion always has been side by side with all the tyrannic governments around the world. never did anything for slaves, women, environment, animals, democracy, education ,rights, poor, health, liberty, life, jobs, property, peace, security, freedom of speech, freedom of association, etc. etc. etc. NEVER not yesterday, not today, not tomorrow. They help to slow the progress and education of countries and people. Why do you think countries with the lowest IQ are the most religions of all? The same with people, Less IQ more religious they are. but hey you love guns and religion so at least you half the world by your side (conservatives, rednecks, kkk, racists, nazis, christians) the education that describes this kind of people is incredible. People like you do nothing to help this world, just talk shit about religion but no action. I really dont care if you want to live in your fantasy world, or if you want to drink kool aid. I defend that, I defend that people do whatever they want. But when they are exempt of tax, and when they try to interfere in politics, and when they try to push their stupid believes on others, thats when this madness has to stop. Just erase religion and guns of this world, and this will be a better place

    Hello Byron -
I too have chanced upon this site but I disagree with you. All your accusations about religion and guns are levied like they are evil in themselves. You and I can agree it is the humans that missuse the tools and ideas that are the problem. Religion gives purpose. To fanatical fundamentalist this can be a bad thing but those who do not distort the moral basics of the 10 commandments it can be good – for example the founding of our country. Immediately equating a person as racist and dumb may make you feel morally superior temporarily but does not do justice to an honest debate about the facts. I could be wasting my time but I don’t think so – I suggest you look question why you trust the leaders that want to squash the right to own guns after digesting the facts. Then ask yourself why do you hate religion. You make alot of unfounded accusations. Please go back through your tirade and check your history and reflect a little more.

  • Anonymous

Greg I press the liked button by accident, but I completely disagree with you. First because you (like all of you) didnt answer any of my points.”You make a lot of unfounded accusations.” Which ones?, All religions are fanatical fundamentalist, or do you think christianity is not like islam… They are all the same. “those who do not distort the moral basics of the 10 commandments it can be good – for example the founding of our country”. The founding of every country, they came to this part of the world to christianize us and force us to follow that religion or else death. When they killed every native of this side of the world, then they persecute all other religions, and kill them too. With the excuse of pagans and witches sinners. “Immediately equating a person as racist and dumb may make you feel morally superior temporarily but does not do justice to an honest debate about the facts.” Do you want a debate? bring the facts… About guns… USA is one of the few countries in the world that having a gun is a Constitutional right… But is one with the most criminal activities by gun in the whole planet. This planet needs to be free of guns. Why do you support guns?
you just quoted the 10 commandments “Thou shalt not kill”… oh I forgot you people loves double standards. The thing is that guns should be illegal, theres no purpose for them in this century. And religion should be out of children environment… If they want to become one delusional person too, they will be free to do it, but at least with education

  • Greg

Byron. Nothing wrong with “liking” debate. Let’s concentrate on Religion first. My point is you are hating religion, throwing away the good that it does in the world and focusing on the evil people that use it. Examples: Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Ghandi are religious people who have benefitted mankind. There are many more examples throughout written history of people killing in the name of a religion – the peacemakers don’t make for good writing. Those are bad people using religion for there own ends. My point is religion (when in the hands of good people) has helped America and the world more than hurt it. America was founded on Christian principles and individual freedom. Countries and religions are inventions of man and neither is perfect. Man continually makes mistakes. But America has been a force for more good than evil because of these two principles – God (where we get our morality from) and Freedom (which we must protect). Freedom includes choosing religion or none at all. Morality without freedom is tyranny. Freedom without morality is anarchy. Moral relativism doesn’t work. Can we agree thus far?

  • Samuel Hora

bryoneill11, are you condemning all ideals and value systems because some members of some of them were willing to commit violence to promote their cause? So tell us, to what extent are YOU willing to go in committing violence to promote your own ideals and value system (eg. making owning some things illegal for other people or preventing them from raising their children as they see fit)?

  • Anonymous

Samuel, I made another comment but im still waiting for moderator approval. He approved my previous comment a few days after I post it so I’ll let you know, because I really dont want to write all that again… But if you are implying that making guns illegal or avoiding indoctrinations of children are in the same level of the violence I was referring to, then your priorities are upside down. No No No, if you are implying that making guns illegal or avoiding indoctrinations of children are a way of violence, then you need to look up the meaning of violence. “Making owning some things illegal for other people” Im in favor of the legalization of marijuana, legalization of gay marriage, decriminalizing drugs, and many more things. GUNS are destroying this world as a whole, they have no purpose whatsoever, and in 95% of the crimes theres guns involve. Nope is not MY OWN IDEALS to benefit myself, its to benefit
society. All the people who defends guns are arrogant who just think of themselves and nobody else. Who is against guns is looking for the world citizen health and that includes you. Im not against religion, im in favor of all of them. If you want to preach to your children all your believes and values good for you. As long as it doesnt interfere with other peoples believes and values, the government, or a society. So can you please illustrate me how, in a any way, this is committing violence to promote my own ideas and value system??? and how is this compare to the killing of million and millions of people (that you claim, “some members” did it)

Anonymous: Sorry that your comment was not approved. It looked from my perspective like it had been approved, but it was automatically flagged for “potential abusive language” by Disqus and I had not noticed. Incidentally, your first response (the one that took a few days for me to approve) was the same way — flagged for “abusive language.” I wonder why that is….

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU….especially for point 7….if my husband hadn’t made it perfectly clear to me that he would lay down his life for me, my family or our home I would have never married him 41year ago.

  • http://libertarianchristians.com Norman Horn

Well you are quite welcome, ma’am.

  • Greg

Well we are more alike than you probably think. The major difference is defining the terms of tolerance and morality. I believe everyone should have choices and thus a high level of tolerance is needed by the state including the choice to own guns and choose a religion. I would think your humanistic perspective would allow this choice without calling it prehistoric or labeling it anything but a choice. Some people AND some religions believe they are morally superior. This very thought (I believe) takes them further away from God. But then it begs the question where does morality come from AND is it as relative as you suggest. I think we will have to agree we both are tolerant humans but disagree on the morality question. I don’t believe leading a self indulgent life is good for ones soul but I don’t believe in condeming one for their choices either. I will leave the judgement to God in the end and not to the state in the here and now. Here is where the guns come in… if no one can have a gun but the state then you better hope your morals and tolerance level is exactly like that of the state you live in and controls your life otherwise you will be the slave.
    Good discussion.
    Cheers.

  • Sodabob

People can be evil, religion or no, guns or no. Hitler was a believer. Stalin was an Atheist. Both slaughtered millions. And slaughter didn’t come about after the invention of the gun. With what gun did Cain murder his brother?

  • Sodabob

Also note, when one of Jesus’ entourage cuts the ear off the priest’s servant with a sword, he doesn’t say to the disciple, “get rid of that sword, you violent person!” He merely indicates that violence isn’t necessary, and to put the sword away. And as you mention, at one point he indicates that having a sword (weapon) is more important than having warm clothing (a cloak).

    FIREARMS:
    Scripturally Defended

Few Americans are more strident about their constitutional rights,1 particularly the Second Amendment guarantee to keep and bear arms, than are hunters and gun enthusiasts:

A well-regulated militia being necessary to the
security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms
shall not be infringed. (Amendment 2, United States Constitution)

Some of the most powerful Washington special-interest groups are the
organizations (such as the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of
America) formed to protect these rights. As a gun owner and hunter
myself, I am very concerned about my “right” to keep and bear arms.
However, as the Christian head of my home, I am much more concerned
about my God-given responsibility to keep and bear arms for the
protection of my family, home, and possessions. Consequently, I am not
a Second Amendment advocate. In fact, I believe Americans who tout the
Second Amendment as their authority for their right to keep and bear
arms may ultimately do more harm than good to their so-called right…

Just a thought, When Peter cut off the servants ear, a downward stroke seems obvious that it would carry through the shoulder potentially killing the servant…A more reasonable idea ( I think ) is that the servant ducked sideways to avoid having his head cut off as the sword was being swung horizontally….and just got the ear….
Peter may have intended to cut off the head. How about it?

  • http://libertarianchristians.com Norman Horn

Interesting thought, I guess I had never thought too deeply about what kind of stroke it takes to catch an ear. But, it makes sense.

“Most people can’t be trusted, so we should have laws against guns, which most people will abide by because they can be trusted.” Well, if I can’t trust someone to use a gun properly, how then can I trust them to rule over me within the government?

hard not to agree affordable life insurance

  • Josh N.

    Guardian-

The ultimate act of love beside Christ dying on the cross for the sins of a otherwise sinful race was to establish death in the first place. In God’s secret will, he ordained that, rather than showing love by allowing us to continue living in sin without perishing, we would be killed for it. For us to have continued living on this earth with the knowledge of sin and willful desire for it would have caused a nightmare for earth. It was love that established the curse of a bodily death.

So to address what possibly Rod was trying to get at would be along these lines: to end life as the result of self-defense or protection against “Jack” through the use of a bullet is in many ways is a grace of his life. He cannot continue in sin; though he is bound for hell, he will only answer to what his life as shown to that point. As it is an act of love for God to establish the life-cycle for his own sinful likeness’s, it is also an act of love to prevent a man from continuing to sin and abound in it. Christ kills our spirit in regeneration by his own sacrifice, thereby renewing it and making it new through this process. What is left, as the scripture says, is our body, our “flesh”, to finally die.

Maybe this helps you understand what he maybe was trying to point at.

When I read it, it said he used it on the animals not the people. But if he did use it on the people too, they deserved that. The scumbags were selling 2nd rate animals for 1st rate sacrifices.

Still, I have to stop myself from Killing people with a smart mouth or agression. But I can’t Tolorate the Victimization of inocent. So, I’ll have to be armed.

This makes me laugh so much, have you ever heard of a liberal with a gun? I sure haven’t. Liberals being Christians? They support gay marriage. Abortion. Don’t consider calling yourself one. Your violating the constitution and the gov can pull my rifles from my cold dead hands.

    Your Republican friend.

  • Mitchptrnk

Exactly they’re here to protect our families. If someone really wants to kill someone they’ll use anything such as a knife or bat it’s just another tool

  • Shawn

I’d like to see a theif break into your house with a gun and is threatening your family and would you pull the trigger on him if you had a gun? Or let him kill your family? Murder and rape have been going on for hundreds of years your always going to have these sick demented people. This is why you use guns it keeps your family safe and keeps those liberals away haha.

  • Danny

As a retired veteran of law enforcement, I can tell that our failure to “remove the leaven” from society has leavened the whole lump.  Rampant crime is caused by a failure to act and a failure to meet out proper desserts.  Law enforcement is a servant to the people as a “2nd responder”.  The individual is the “1st responder”.  When someone is victimizing you or a loved one, you have a personal duty to act.  Risking your life for another is the epitome of Christian duty.   Failure to do so places the burden of intervention on others and is pure cowardice.  If the family in the next home down the street is victimized due to your own inaction, you bear some of the burden.  Remember that David who killed his 1000′s was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22) and the LORD changeth not. (Mal. 3:6)

  • Gene

numbers thirty six, thirty seven and thirty nine were my favorites.  I recently began to wonder how many people who killed someone while driving drunk refused to have a gun in their house because they thought it was too dangerous.

  • Emilyzalasky

oh okay so a woman strangled and raped is morally superior to a woman who can defend herself AHAHAHAHAHAHAH christians

  • lulu

Do you think that if guns were completely banned and removed, people with ill intent would stop killing people? Get real! They would move on to the next best thing. Prisoners don’t have guns, but they can make a multitude of things to kill others with. Are you going to take away my toothbrush and razor too? Your point is moot. Guns don’t kill people. Stupid people kill people. And for the record, those “evil” Christians you are referring to aren’t following the Bible or the Word of Jesus. A true Christian is taught to LOVE and not judge. Christians shouldn’t go to war for their beliefs. They should show love, mercy, humility and understanding to gain respect, not terrorize people to believe. God wants us to fear him, but not with a sense of fright, but respect. He wants us to LOVE him and do the right thing for that very reason, not because we are afraid of what might happen if we don’t follow him, but because we want to!

This is something I put together recently, and which may be of benefit:

QUESTIONS FOR THOSE WHO DON’T BELIEVE IN THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS

    1. If we do not have the right to keep and bear arms, and the just powers of government are delegated from the governed, then how can an army or any agent of government keep and bear arms?

    2. How does passing laws to restrict or ban weapons stop criminals who can easily get them on the black market?

    3. If you and your neighbours cannot keep and bear arms, then won’t the criminal be more bold in his criminal activity?

    4. Isn’t removing weapons from a law-abiding individual, who has committed no crime, a form of property theft?

    5. Doesn’t history show that weapon control leads to governments becoming more bold in abusing their power?

    6. Doesn’t a well-armed population provide a huge deterrent to invasion? And a huge target if not armed?

    7. How do a people throw off their government when it seeks to become their master rather than their servant if the government has all the weapons?

    8. Won’t far more people under gun-control laws be harmed and killed because of their inability to protect themselves than harmed or killed by gun-related accidents where the right to keep and bear arms is secured?

    9. If the responsibility necessary to own weapons can only be permitted by government or government-backed bodies, then where did they gain such superiority over private individuals and organisations if the government gains its just powers from the governed?

    10. If we remove a person’s weapons from him, or deny him the ability to own them in the first place, are we not imposing a punishment for a crime he *might* commit rather than one he actually has committed?

First of all, even if Christians were supposed to practice strict pacifism (I agree with Norman that we are not, although I certainly think Jesus can call people to that, he certainly did for the disciples) that still wouldn’t mean that guns should be illegal. I mean, Christians shouldn’t use drugs or prostitutes, but no libertarian would support them being banned, and neither would I.
Secondly, even if the second amendment did not protect any right to bear arms (A view I consider to be ludicrous) the tenth amendment would still limit such infringements to state level. Yet the Federal government violates their own laws. Which leads to a question, how should Christians respond to that? Chuck Baldwin, I think, makes a valid point when he argues that Christians in America are bound to the Constitution and not to the modern state.
Reason #37 is the one I hate the most. I can sympathize, even while I think they are wrong, with people who don’t want guns in our society, but when they turn around and give them to the cops, they are hypocrites. As I think I mentioned, I live in New York State, which recently passed an absurd gun law restricting all magazines carrying more than seven rounds. Ironically, and accidentally (Why would the state ever punish its elite on purpose?) this law also applies to the cops. While I don’t believe in gun laws (Practically any, I mean, I wouldn’t want a citizen owning a nuke, and I’m not too keen on them owning tanks either, but automatic weapons, semi automatic weapons, any firearm is fine with me) but if they are going to exist, they darn well SHOULD apply to the cops as well. I don’t really care that this makes them unsafe. That should remind them of how we feel when they take OUR guns away.
