News of the Week: Austrian Scholars Conference 2011
Posted by: |Recapping and highlighting the interesting news this week.
I have been in Auburn, Alabama this week attending the Austrian Scholars Conference at the Ludwig von Mises Institute. What a wonderful time I have had! It’s great to be in the presence of such amazing scholars and defenders of liberty. The sessions have been very enjoyable, and the company even more enjoyable. I’ve even had the opportunity to meet a few LCC readers for the first time.
If you go to www.mises.org you can even watch some of the sessions as they happen live. Let me invite you today to the talk I am going to give this afternoon at 3:15pm CST. I will be speaking on “New Testament Theology of the State,” a topic that many readers here will be pretty familiar with. ![]()
I hope you join me later this afternoon!
UPDATE: My talk is now online, along with all the others from ASC 2011. Check out the full program here!

Great Libertarian Quotes in Heinlein
Posted by: |Yesterday on LewRockwell.com, Jeff Riggenbach posted a short essay entitled Was Robert A. Heinlein a Libertarian? It reminded me of how much I enjoyed Heinlein’s incredible novel, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, for it’s witty characters and thought-provoking political dialogue.
Besides the inimitable Mike (who is actually a computer), my favorite character was definitely Professor Bernardo de la Paz, affectionately called “Prof” throughout the book. He identifies himself a rational anarchist and always has something interesting to add to whatever is going on at the time.
I have taken the liberty to type out my favorite quotes from the book for your reading pleasure. Maybe it will inspire you to read the novel in full…

Is Limited Government an Oxymoron?
Posted by: |Actually… Yes. Yes it is.
Another great video for today, although I admit it’s a bit long but well worth it. If you’ve been curious about whether or not “restoring” all of the “traditional” aspects of American “governance” is a good idea, then I would challenge you to watch this entire video and consider what Doug Casey and Tom Woods have to say.
The government is a band of thieves writ large, a parasite, and a horrible idea from the get-go. Liberty is the answer.
The great irony of this show? It was broadcast on PBS. LOL. Way to use the system against itself…
