Enjoy Capitalism!

This entry is part 5 of 22 in the series Great Libertarian Memes

This article is #5 of a weekly series highlighting the former memes of Bureaucrash, an organization once headed by my friends Pete Eyre and Jason Talley of the Motorhome Diaries. The memes were originally authored by Pete Eyre and Anja Hartleb-Parson, and were intended as means of communicating ideas about liberty in catchy and succinct ways.

Capitalism is the only moral social system. Only a capitalist system allows you to act in your own interest, to keep what you have worked for and trade it with other willing individuals. For much of human history, wealth has been produced primarily by looting or enslaving others. Under capitalism wealth is created by serving others, by creating values for them. Individuals who produce the best goods and services are rewarded by making the most profit. Those who produce shoddy goods, mediocre services or try to defraud others are weeded out when exposed.

A well-functioning environment adds to the welfare of human beings. Most people want to breathe fresh air and drink clean water; to relax in abundant parks and green forests; and to observe wildlife in their natural habitats. These same folks think that a diversity of plants and animals is important and are awed and inspired by the sheer beauty of untouched places of nature.

By 9:40 a.m., Stack had departed from the Georgetown airport 21 miles from his home in his Piper Cherokee PA 28 airplane. At 9:56 a.m., he crashed this plane into an IRS office near the intersection of Mopac Boulevard and U.S. Route 183 in Austin, Texas, ending his own life, killing one individual, seriously wounding others, and causing immeasurable grief to many more.

Students for Liberty Award Winners

One of the highlights of the SFL International Conference was the awards presentation on Friday night. I was actually one of the students nominated for the “Student of the Year” award – in part because of LibertarianChristians.com – but I didn’t win. Nevertheless, just to be included in a group of students such as these was a great honor in and of itself. The other two awards were for “Student Group of the Year” and “Event of the Year.” Here are all the award winners this year with their descriptions from the SFL website. There is much we can learn from the passion of these students!
