RSGracey: First off, your characterization of libertarianism is incorrect. The fundamental "tenet," if you will, is not that "everyone takes care of himself," but rather is the non-aggression principle. I agree that we are to be charitable to our fellow man, and especially to the body of believers. However, it is a HUGE stretch to go from "I should be charitable" to "I want the government to force other people to be charitable."

I refer you to some of the articles on LCC that make this point more clear:
Discussion of Christian Charity: http://libertarianchristians.com/2009/05/16/christian-charity/
The Libertarian Theology of Freedom: http://libertarianchristians.com/2009/06/17/opitz/

Religious Roots of Liberty: http://libertarianchristians.com/2009/09/04/opitz-roots/

I don't think we're THAT bizarre...

"Libertarian Christians" is an oxymoron. Libertarianism--everyone takes care of himself--is absolutely contrary to the central message of the Gospel, which is "we are all one Body in Jesus Christ." I think anyone who considers himself both a Libertarian and a Christian has missed the fundamental message of Jesus, which is that the Community (the Body) has responsibility for all its members, because each member is precious to God, and as a beloved child of God, everyone should be fed, housed, clothed, and loved as a neighbor. It works exactly the same in reverse: As a Child of God, we each and all have responsibility to care for the "least of these."

This is such a bizarre website...
