Podcast: The Warmonger’s Beatitudes and Humpty Dumpty Religion

By Norman

This is the eighth installment of the Christianity and War Audiobook Podcast, presented by LibertarianChristians.com. Today I have two essays in store for you, including “The Warmonger’s Beatitudes” and “Humpty Dumpty Religion.” The first recasts the Beatitudes of Jesus in the book of Matthew for those inclined to violence, and the second addresses critics’ reactions to the Christian Warmonger Quiz (see the fifth C&W podcast). I hope you have enjoyed these podcasts as much as I have enjoyed making them!

    Hey Norm

So I listened to your podcast. Great Work bro!

I’m not from America and I can tell you that many of your beliefs and values as a Christian are held much more widely by Christians outside of America than in America. I hope this is encouraging.

I love the USA. This is not always a popular position overseas but i am always the first to stand up for the US in a discussion. It is an incredible nation with incredible people and I have many friends there. I will actually be going to the US at the end of the year to see my friends.

Unfortunately, something I have noticed about many Americans is that they struggle with sheer idolatry of the state. They are often prepared to sacrifice Christian principle for the principles of Conservatism, Republicanism and the nation of the USA. Far too often I am horrified by how “christians” have allowed the right wing and conservatism to hijack their cause. Somehow it has become accepted convention that conservatism and christianity are the same thing.

It takes courage and conviction to do what you are doing and you should know it is good and encouraging to people like me. Just a suggestion for future discussion- what would a sermon-on-the-mount government look like? In other words, what do we rally around as opposed to what we rally against. Would our dream government let the terrorists attack? Would we not intervene in a genocide?

I have some opinions on these Qs but I’m interested to see what you think.
